Letter from the Bond Advisory Committee to the Board of Supervisors Recommending a November 2009 Bond Election

Preparation for Bond Election Planning

Pima County typically funds the construction of facilities and land acquisitions with revenue generated from the sale of general obligation and revenue bonds. Types of facilities and acquisitions funded this way include: parks and recreational facilities, community centers, libraries, public health clinics, museums, sheriff substations, jail expansions, court facilities, flood control improvements, sewer system improvements, affordable housing, neighborhood reinvestment projects and land purchased to conserve natural areas. Voter approval is required for Pima County to sell bonds to fund these facilities. In May 2006, Pima County voters approved the sale of $54 million in general obligation bonds for the development and construction of psychiatric facilities, including a psychiatric hospital and critical care center. These facilities are currently under design. The County is also implementing bond projects approved by voters at 1997 and 2004 elections.

Pima County is beginning to plan for a future bond election. This web site provides information on this planning process, including reports, project proposals, dates and locations for meetings, opportunities to comment, and links related to County's Bond Advisory Committee.
